The 7th Really Wild Festival 2011

Festival News

Post Festival Report - The 7th Really Wild Festival!!

The seventh Really Wild Festival was bigger and better than before…...it continues to surprise us, as it grows and improves every year! The change of dates to the end of July, and the change of days to a Friday and Saturday worked brilliantly and the crowds poured in.

There were new exhibitors and entertainments as well as the regular, familiar ones and loads to do for every age-group.

The chef demos with Anthony Evans and Fraser Christian were definitely 'really  wild' in many ways (see the pics!), and the volunteers in Adam Vincent's sausage  making workshop appeared to cope very well! The festival hosted a Low Carbon Cook-off Competition too, where four local chefs competed head-to-head, using ingredients of their choosing, to create a winning dish that had the lowest environmental impact. On Friday 29th Tommy Simmons of Newport Golf Club, competed against Matt Smith of Llysmeddyg, Newport. On Saturday 30th Sam Rice of the Bench in St. Davids went up against Jonathan Williams of Cafe Mor.

On the animal side of things, there was ferret racing and the pig racing as usual, both of which remain firm favourites with the crowds. Birds of prey, alpacas, gun dogs, and a sheepdog herding ducks and pony rides also entertained the visitors and there was a display of beautiful Icelandic Horses.

There was an increase in children's activities including hands-on craft workshops, bushcraft, puppets, story-telling, bugs & beasties walks, acrobatics and circus skills and a brilliant high climbing wall.

Whilst kids were doing wild things their parents could sample food and drink and buy crafts and art, sign up with  environmental  groups and go on walks or sit through talks.
The festival wouldn't be complete without the enormously competitive Bowling with Veg or Wellie Wanging!! The latter seems to have a following all of its own now, with some visitors organizing their holidays around the festival in order not to miss this competition.!!!

So do make a note of next year's dates and put them in your diaries!!
