I know we are all supposed to have five portions of fruit and veg per day, but right now I seem to be having five portions of just strawberries per day.
Some do make it as far as the larder and into the bowl of BH (Better Half), but I find it impossible to spend a significant amount of time gardening without ‘just checking’ (you’ll know what I mean) the strawberry patch in case some should have miraculously ripened in the short amount of time since I checked before. Even the dog has taken to rootling around in that area.
However, my biggest competitors are the birds and I don’t want to put nets up in case they get caught in them, so I was thinking over the possibility of making an old type of scarecrow. Eventually I used old CDs which seem to be doing the job OK (at the mo.) but the scarecrow idea lingered on and I thought it would be a fun idea to have a REALLY WILD SCARECROW COMPETITION at the festival!!
So keep you eyes open for details on our website, think up some amazingly brilliant ideas and enter the competition on the 5th & 6th September.

Your scarecrow competition idea has wonderful possibilities especially for the children, they could let their imaginations run wild. Another though, for the dining club this time , a Masquerade Meal, with masks being made from any natural materials -found or foraged- yum!!
Shall we send you an entry form for the Scarecrow Competition?!! Masquerade Meal could be fun, perhaps we could do it at the Festival one evening to raise some funds for charity, probably next year I guess. All ideas gratefully received. Keep them coming...
