WALKERS
Yun Hider is a professional forager who runs his own wild food-sourcing company in Pembrokeshire finding delicious wild food for restaurants. On Saturday he will lead a walk along the hedgerows, identifying which plants are edible and how to make use of them. Yun is also giving a talk in the afternoon.
Lara Bernays, Medical Herbalist, and Thomas Bean, Gastronomer, are dynamic enthusiasts about the heritage and future of wild plants. Join them on Sunday for an amazing walk foraging for wild food and medicine. Also watch them at work in the kitchen on Saturday.
Colin Porter, runs ‘walkalongway.com™’ an established walking activity and guided walks programme in Pembrokeshire and West Wales. He encourages walkers of all abilities to explore the real countryside and coastline of this stunning area. Colin is leading an ‘Orienteering Class for Kids’ where he will be teaching the importance of map-reading and using a compass.
On Saturday Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Ranger Ian Meopham will lead a walk from Whitesands around St Davids Head looking at shoreline food, environmental and coastal issues. On Sunday Ian will lead Really Wild Kids down to the stream and woodland in the Cathedral Close to look for creepy-crawlies, bugs and wriggly things.
Andrew Tuddenham, the National Trust Head Warden for North Pembrokeshire, will lead a gentle walk across Waun Fawr Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest adjacent to the festival field. This area of heathland is one of Europe’s most endangered habitats and is managed by the National Trust. Andrew will explain how previous generations made use of this area. Saturday & Sunday.
Andrew Dugdale runs ‘Pembrokeshire Paths’ and also ecotherapywalks.co.uk which is a voluntary walking group offering an encouraging and supportive environment for those who have suffered mental distress. Join him on Saturday & Sunday for a Nordic Walking Introduction Workshop. Learn the basic Nordic Walking techniques. Poles supplied.
