Really Wild Walkers

Lara Bernays and Tom Bean are leading two guided walks each day through the lanes, woods and fields near the festival site. The group will find plants available in the "wild" that are useful for medicinal and culinary purposes. The foraging walks will conclude with some hands-on workshops back at the festival site to prepare and enjoy the hedgerow bounty. Lara works as an Ethnobotanist and has a degree in herbal medicine. Her passion is the use of native wild welsh plants as food and medicine. She runs workshops at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and is the Welsh regional organiser for Ethnomedica based at Kew Gardens.
Tom is a local Gastronomer who works with food in the community and specialises in wild food. With an MA in Food Culture from Slow Food's University of Gastronomic Sciences, Tom works with producers, cooks, chefs, markets, schools, festivals, community groups, artists, young people and old to cultivate and celebrate food culture in Wales.

Andrew Tuddenham, the National Trust Head Warden for North Pembrokeshire, will lead a gentle walk across Waun Fawr Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest adjacent to the festival field. This area of heathland is one of Europe’s most endangered habitats and is managed by the National Trust. Andrew will explain how previous generations made use of this area. This walk will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Colin Porter runs ‘Walka-Longway’ which gives people of all abilities the chance to explore the real landscape of Pembrokeshire. On this orienteering walk he will be helping children understand the importance of correct map reading and compass skills.

Ian Meopham a Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Ranger will lead a walk from Whitesands around St Davids Head looking at shoreline food, environmental and coastal issues. Ian is the first contact for TV Production Companies when they plan a programme in Britain’s only coastal National Park because of his wide environmental knowledge.

West Wales Dowsers Society will be leading a walk and revealing the mysteries of dowsing. You can learn how to use this skill for all kinds of benefits.

Testimonial

"your organisation was the best we had seen at a show and we were really impressed with the "green" issues, i.e. recycling bins. Isn't it a shame that more shows don't follow your example" - Mike
